Working for Monadelphous - who are we, and what do we do?

23rd February 2020

You probably know by now that Monadelphous conducts engineering and construction work across the resources, energy and infrastructure sectors. Our collective expertise and enviable reputation is attributed to our customer-focused approach to business and the consistent delivery of high quality work. This has allowed us to excel across a range of industries and markets and positioned us to work on some of the world’s biggest projects from oil and gas projects in the North-West Shelf to wind farms in New South Wales.

Our workforce conducts real, hands-on work across our domestic and international operations. You won’t find us completing the front-end design side of things, our work takes us out into the field amongst the action!

Our Monadelphous Graduate program is designed to provide Graduates with an exciting, immersive and interesting start to their career. Past graduates have found themselves conducting asset maintenance work in the Pilbara, working on construction of mineral processing facilities in Mongolia or even working on site in Papua New Guinea!

The Monadelphous Graduate Program is open to applications from a range of different disciplines and degrees, and we know we are stronger when we draw from a diverse range of experiences and skills. Our current cohort include Graduate Engineers, Construction Managers, Accountants and Health Safety and Environment candidates.

Graduates who join the Monadelphous business will work across our three divisions: Engineering and Construction, Maintenance and Industrial Services and our Corporate division. We can’t tell you exactly where you’ll be based or what you’ll be doing just yet, as our scope of works are highly dependent on the market and meeting our client’s needs - but that’s just part of the adventure! However, we can tell you that no matter which division you join, where you’re based and what project you’re working on, you’ll receive the experience, mentorship and support you need to excel as a Graduate!

So how about it, are you ready to start your adventure with Monadelphous?

How to get the most out of a career fair

24th February 2020

Getting the most out of a Careers Fair means more than snapping up the freebies and collecting brochures!

There’s more to this important day than collecting gift bags and snacks! Here at Monadelphous, we want to help you get the most out of your university’s Careers Fair day.

Check out the list below for a few hot tips and tricks, and be sure to say “Hi!” when you see us on campus!

Plan it out – Careers Fairs can be overwhelming – there are so many people to see, so many activities to participate in - so come prepared. Do your research beforehand, decide who you might like to meet, and why. Be sure to consider each organisation’s background, the opportunities they have available and what their Graduate programs look like.

Have a ‘Pitch’ – We know you’re a great candidate, but does everyone else? Your resume will list your skills and achievements, but to stand out from the crowd you should prepare a “pitch” to present to all the new people you’re about to meet! Keep it short, sharp and succinct but be sure to mention the things that make you unique!

Prioritise – Time flies when you’re having fun, and a Careers Fair is no exception. While some booths might have captivating merchandise or a table full of lollies, make sure to prioritise your dream employer and approach them first. There will be plenty of time for freebies later!

Listen – You only know what you know, and everyone you meet will inevitably know something that you don’t. At a Careers Fair, this is as true as ever. So, whether you’re meeting a Project Director or a first-year Graduate, keep an open mind and take in as much as you can!

Snap Up Those Business Cards – This might seem like a bit of a no-brainer, but every business card you collect is another tool to help you in your job search!

Say Thanks! – While Careers Fairs are a great opportunity for employers and Graduates to scope each other out, remember that the people you meet have dedicated their time and energy to meet you! Good manners and respect are always in fashion – and could very well be the point of difference between you and the next candidate!

We hope these tips and tricks help you out, we’ll see you on campus soon!

Application timeline and important things to remember - what do we look for?

25th February 2020

Ready to start your adventure with Monadelphous, but not too sure how to go about it? Here are a few handy tips to get you prepared for some of the conversations that you may have over the ourse of your application and interview process; we hope they help!

About you

Monadelphous grads are not just skilled in their fields, they are a good cultural fit and embody the Monadelphous way. So, what's the Monadelphous Way? It's the embodiment of what we call 'Owner's Mindset'; treating our customer sites as if they are our own, looking after each other, ard work, collaboration and the willingness to just get in and 'give it a go' for the good of your team, project and the business.

Teamwork is at the epicentre of everything we do - there is no 'I' in team, and there is no 'I' in Monadelphous! In fact, we value teamwork so much, it's one of our core values. Why? We believe that we are stronger and achieve more together, and as a new employee and graduate, we want to support you, so you're able to support the team and divisions in which you work.

Development is also important. At Monadelphous, we offer our graduates an array of positions, that give them the exposure they need to various industries and divisions. If you're up for development, progression and growth, you're already halfway there. When you get a chance to speak to one of us, tell us what excites you about future growth! Think of ways in which you can express your interest in the business, your role and your career.

What's next? Adaptability! We want to know how adaptable you are to change. Do you think you will adapt to life on-site, on a FIFO or DIDO roster? How about working hands-on rather than in an office? Don't worry, we don't expect you to be doing all the heavy lifting – we are just as flexible. When you join the Monadelphous family we place your learning, development and progression in your hands. What does this mean? Well, if you want to hit your stride and finish the Graduate program as fast as possible, you can. If you'd rather take your time to dot I’s and cross the T's and need longer, that's fine by us too! Your professional development is what matters most to us, not dates and timelines.

Online

Applications for the Monadelphous Graduate program open in early March and are expected to close on early April; please keep an eye on our website and social media for updates.

**Please note that while there is the potential for this deadline to be extended closer to the date, we advise not to rely on this. Instead, be ready to submit your application by or before 6 April 2020.

As part of your application process, there will be a standard online interview, with all the usual questions – previous experiences, why you want to join us here, what music will you listen to on your first flight to the Pilbara, that sort of thing. All our applicants will be reviewed and screened over March and April, with the submissions being examined by our recruitment team during that time.

Next Steps

After your online application has been received and processed, the next step will be a Video Interview followed by an Assessment Centre. These visits encompass two group-based activities together with your fellow applicants to see how you work in a team and to get to know you better. This is then followed by an interview, where you will be asked a range of basic behavioural questions.

That covers it – Once these steps are concluded, your application will be completed, and positions will be offered to successful candidates before 1 May 2020.

Some of our new team members will have mid-year commencements, which means they will begin orientation at Monadelphous in July. For our new-year openings, full-time work doesn't start up until February 2021 – We can't wait to meet you!

Read our brochure to find out more about us, what gets us excited and if we haven’t convinced you yet, turn to page 11 for ten great reasons to join our Program.

As an equal opportunity employer, we encourage and promote diversity and inclusion, and welcome applications from all backgrounds.
